From speaking to operators, this is down to the monopoly that the "big boys" are charging for spares and repairs.

From my research the average repair bill from  is £700 (from the big boys - not mentioning any names).

What I don't understand is why they do a huge mark-up on DLP lamps, the price is 100% more.

Also many parts can be oem'd direct from other places.

Look at the the OR2SP SDX motion controller drive board - direct from Panasonic is about 100% cheaper than offical spare part retailers.

Worst case scenario is say a Lindbergh going to one of the big boys in the summer holidays, by the time a customer gets it back, the summer holidays are over, that is 50% of the potential takings a machine will make in a year.

I've looked into some companies purchasing, they could have same a small fortune in a year. I am still amazed places like InspiredGaming are still in business, they must loose more money than they make.

32" panel for a 'Carbon' £1500 + VAT
DLP lamp for HD4 £335 + VAT
Guns are a big problem £375 from Namco for TC2
so we use Suzo

Also use PLS especially for cables.

Our Afterburner had no motion all through the summer hols and cost a small fortune to get fixed
it also had duff graphics which prevented us selling it (doesn't take well) - it has also comsumed two IO cards, a JVS and a seatbelt - the thing is a money pit - that's where I found AndyGeezer who has helped us get it going and also a Lets go Jungle.

Three skeerolls now? Didn't you used to have a big rear pro game next to them? Something like Virtua Striker and then the big horse racing betting machine?Confused

We had two Naomi Universals, one was tennis the other football - the footy was replaced by a Teken which is now a Clay Challenge.
The horsey machine is a Race Time - when we bought it at the ATEI nobody took a tape measure - it was supposed to go near the right hand door where TC4 & HD4 live - probably 6' too high so it got dragged to where it is now - still had to cut it down the left hand side still touches the ceiling.

We live in the St.Austell/Par area and we used to have a great arcade at Cornish Leisure World/Cornwall Coliseum.
It's nice to hear someone still has actual video games to play in their arcade! Clap

We will make a point of popping in when we come down in the next week or so.Smile

I know John & Derek who put the gear in there.
Never went there when it was open but saw the wreck it is now when
I walked from Charlestown to Par.

Lot arcades I visit are just rows of fruits - our floor space
is more than half video or at least not fruits.

From the 10th Oct we're open 10-6 7 days.

Cornish Leisure World/Cornwall Coliseum! I can't remember it too well from the 80's myself but speaking to my dad recently he said they used to be the big venue in the south west and that a lot of big names played there! I noticed recently that it was also featured in the video to the Alison Moyet song "Is This Love?" Smile Was about 1986, so it was still open to the public then! I noticed the old shipwreck still on the beach as well (was taken away ages ago for "health and safety" reasons apparently Thumbs Down).

I can remember most of the machines:

Paper Boy
Marble Madness
Tron
Operation Wolf
Space Invaders
Asteroids
Gauntlet
Missile Command
Star Wars (cop-pit)

And the newer stuff

Outrun dlux
Thunder Blade
TMNT
Narc
Rastan
Basket Brawl

Three pinball machines, the only one I can remember being Space invaders as you could hear the attract sounds walking up the stairs to go in! Smile

The shipwreck was not real wreck it was made out of an old fishing trawler and put there for a TV show or a film can't remember which, the bloody thing had nails sticking out of it everywhereSmile

The Star Wars probably was ours which we sold on, spot killer - vector grafix  - nightmare - we never had Missile Command despite it being a favourite game amongst the staff.
Gaunlet was also a big problem - you had to have it but it never made any money as the good players sold their 'health' to those in the queue.
Despite working in the industry I don't play any games but Space Invaders Pintable is one I remember for the rythmic sound - Xevious is another.

I need to wait for a day with decent weather and I think i'll make a journey down. It's about a 40 miles and an hours journey for me, so not too bad!
Currently looking for: Ridge Racer PCB set (or Rom set), maybe a B+W game pcb of some sort :)

I'd drive miles to play a TX-1 then I'd try to get it in a luton and run off with it! :-)

I'm so glad you had a nice day - wasn't the weather fabulous.

Were you there when we had Sega Rally in pieces ?
It's had two Europa's replaced then the RH grafix card failed two weeks ago and this morning the LH side failed - got a new one in fairly quickly thanks to advice from AndyGeezer.

18 wheeler is one of the machines that has a domestic LCD TV in it - looks nice.

Today's tale is that Pirates Treasure gearbox dumped all it's oil in the cashbox, Terminator Salvation graphics failed - only 6 months old - "no you you can't have a replacement card the warranty has expired" - we are lucky to get 30 days under warranty (maybe more if you owe them money).
That's five Nvidia cards dead in a couple of months.

Certainly was - took a while washing the 10p's and then taking the motor out to pack it with grease rather than oil - Parvalux motor/Gearboxes  are are really very good - they last forever except when they are mounted upside down !!

Yes I watched the Rally 3 get a new card, I was pleased to see a lot of people actually playing the machines and not the fruit machines. Smile
Although it amazes me how much people and my kids love the pushers Big smile

The 18 Wheeler looks good with the LCD, I assume it replaces a projector and is a lot cheaper and a better life span?

Cheers Justin

Dead graphics card was a 9800GT - replacement is an Eco version without the extra power connector.

Stupidly the PC was wired in a rather dumb way - both legs of the graphics card power supply were connected together and also fed the hard drive.

I use this duplicator now rather then PC software - made up some cables so I can duplicate without removing drives.
