Entertainment Exchange, Westover Rd (Formerly Sega World, Bournemouth)

Updated in October 2011 to include a massive array of ticket machines. All the older machines that once lived there were sold off cheaply to private sellers, that included:

Sega Rally 2 (Dual) x1 and Daytona USA 2 Power Edition DX x4.

The only remaining title from the old bunch of cabs is Outrun 2 DX, which was upgraded to OutRun 2 Special Tours DX - 3 of them are located at the back of the premises.

Nowadays there's a mixed bag:

Time Crisis 3 DX,
Time Crisis 4 DX,
Rambo,
Guitar Hero Arcade,
OutRun 2 SP Special Tours,
F355 Ferrari Challenge,
Dancing Stage Super Nova (dual),
Racedriver GRID (dual),
Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing Arcade (dual),
Sega Golden Gun,
Let's Go Jungle Deluxe (really expensive cab! shame about the yellowing screen and minor graphic gliches..),
The Fast and the Furious Superbikes
Ghost Squad (in storage)

Seems a few things have changed since my last visit in 2010..

Shame the Daytona USA 2 DX 4 link setup has gone Unhappy

That's not you next to the Big Buck Safari is it??! Wink
Would like:
Dirt Devils complete boardset or just ROM board/sec board - no longer required as I've got one!!
Just ONE red Sega driver side plastic (left side of an F355 would be perfect

I went there in about 2009/2008 they had in the front section the Outrun2 machine where you sat in cars and took turns steering, also at the back of the place was some megalo with virtua tennis. Was actually the first place I played Capcom Fighting Jam even though buttons were faulty.

Ill be back down there this september so can see how it changed :)

Just to check im on about the place next to a cinema and theres also one opposite with a huge park?
Is there other arcades there?

Hi,

Bournemouth has a pretty good collection of arcades, especially Pier Amusements by the beach. Funland, about 200 hundred yards along the prom to the right of Bmth pier used to be an AMAZING arcade back in the 80's..Two long rooms, lined with JAMMA cabs !!

Havent been there in a loong time, so might take a trip and have a look and see how things have no doubt changed.

I remember Funland back in the early 80s with two rooms upstairs full of classic cabs.  Specifically remember Defender, Asteroids, Snapper but they had lots more I can't remember.

Tucktonia for me was the best arcade ever if you ever went there?  Not necessarily the best selection of games, although good but the atmosphere and darkened room with dim lighting was for me the epitome of the 80s arcade.

Used to come to Bournemouth or family holidays and used to go to Tucktonia in the evening.  Boscombe pier was another cool arcade, first place I saw Robotron!

Tucktonia....Boscombe Pier....good memories for me mate. I lived in Christchurch so these were both in BMX'ing distance for me !

I'm going to do a bigger post on the arcades in 1980's Bournemouth/Christchurch, so you might want to keep an eye out for that !

Presume you remember the aracde in the converted house by the roundabout at Christchurch?  Not that great but did have a Defender.

There was also a cool looking arcade called the Cherries in Old Christchurch Road around opposite where Litten Tree is now iirc.  Only ever went in there once as far as I remember so don't think it lasted that long.  Do remember they were playing Kids in America!

Will look forward to seeing that.  Don't suppose you've got any photos of inside the Tucktonia arcade as that would be amazing!

Cheers again

Greg,

The converted house was Stour Amusements. The building is still there but ceased being an arcade a number of years ago. Stour lasted a long time, and was there from the very early 80's up until maybe 10/11 years ago ??

Cherries had been in Boscombe for a number of years, under a few different names. They used to have a fair few cabs back in the late 80's early 90's, but then went mostly fruits until they closed down about 8 years ago.

I dont suppose you ever went to Quay Amusements, down at Christchurch Quay ?

Yeah that was the one.

Only saw Cherries in Bmth but did see the arcade off the precint which I think is still there but probably just fruits.  Seem to remember it closed and reopened.

Don't recall ever going to Christchurch Quay Amusements which for me would have been odd as was always keen to check out any arcade in the area, but suppose if my parents never went round that way then wouldn't have seen it but do remember going to the quay from time to time.

Cheers
Greg

Greg,
The one off the precinct is still there, but as you say, is fruits only these days.

Quay Amusements was a tiny one room arcade near the bandstand/crazy golf.

Where the Alcatraz night club used to be. There was a bar/diner on the right (just milkshakes for me back then) and on the left all the best videos and then a pitch black basement full of pin tables, truly the Mecca of arcades bitd.
