Our missing bits arrived including a two very expensive cisco wan routers - we had set up home plugs to get the interweb to the routers but for some odd reason they don't work anymore so it was back to looooong lan cables.

We still have everyone else's missing bits.

Luckily I'd just bought us a laptop for diagnosing this sort of stuff.

I've always had all our manuals on my phone now the staff can have them on the laptop.

The homeplugs are tplink and very nice - they provide wireless hotspot with a decent range as well as dual wired lan and they come as a pair - quite expensive at £95.
We have a large building with three phase electrics so the homeplugs only work on a third of the arcade but luckily the phase required is not too far from the machine with the router.
We tested the homeplug extensively for the new machine and it always worked - except when we plugged in the new machine - signal is very marginal with these things and with noise produced by all the other machines we have it's maybe not surprising it stopped working.

Yeh it looks disapointing, the place looks huge and not filled out. I hope that with time it will grow and develop into something a lot better. I can imagine being given funding that they had to jump through a lot of hoops and do a lot of form filling etc, so now they've got it open, fingers crossed something good comes out of it in the end.

The place needs more arcade cabs if it is going to be called an 'arcade'

Maybe it wasn't really ready to be opened and it was all done too early?

Oh also, price on the door for what you currently get, it isn't really justified.

Agreed Strykr, Id have used the floors/rooms each as a era of gaming and you walk though the years. Some of the cabinets (glass ones not arcades) just seems like a collectors cabinet at home who know the history and info on the pieces, not general public that want to learn, I thought that was the idea of a museum.

I think the fact that out of all the cabs used, only the ms pacman and space invaders seem totally original, even something as easy to get as the point blank has the CP dicked about with, surely authenticity is pretty key when your talking about gaming history and arcade games.

Even without the arcade aspect, which to me, is a HUGE part of 70-90's gaming, the other gaming is poor, theres a chap that does an event called supercade at the font in Leicester every month that takes a couple of arcades,a shed load of retro consoles and CRT's and does a better job in 1 room on the fly that this multi-million pound venture does on multiple rooms and floors.]]>

I was there at the weekend. Its pretty dark and dingey. Also sweaty by the dance machines.

It was £10 all day and this enables you to play any console or arcade machine. Its a nice set up.

Never knew this place existed. I'm not a million miles away, I'll have to pay a visit.

One small observation from oldschool's photos, it does look pretty bright in there. If you really want to go for the old arcade feel then dark and dingy is a must!]]>

looks terrible tbh, but early days, and to me a case of too much room and too much random unfocussed crap everywhere, dont know whose running it but it seems pretty simple to me, an early computer room,8 bit era, 16 bit wars an arcade section, modern gaming, next gen gaming, game genres. memorabilia, all of these things could have their own dedicated rooms documenting the history of gaming from square one to the modern day going throughout the building.. Seems like common sense to me and there is enough info on the internet to fill all of this with facts!

Hopefully it will develop.

There you go! That's what an arcade looks like when it's set up using public money. It could be behind the iron curtain.

Actually looks really disappointing if I'm honest, I expected at least a little area dedicated to arcade gaming and not just a few randomly placed cabs, would have been nice to have had an original dk too.]]>

I took a visit to Newcastle county down yesterday
And probably the best arcade for video games over here
I never took pics ,as you can imagine as it was quite packed.
Lots of big simulators ,that would make you wonder
,how long it would take to make just your money back on !
Loads of kiddies rides ,pushers ,fruit machines, dodgems etc
Off the top of my head here's a list of the games ,which I thought was
Quite impressive ,not only for over here ,but anywhere in this day and age
Nothing old ,but all the machines that were there ,were top of the range .
Full size outrun 2player sp
Batman
Starwars latest on ,big capsule type thing
Rambo
Grid ? Sega two player deluxe
Pacman royal
Doodles
Flappy bird type thing
Jurassic park
X men pinball
Wizard of oz pinball
There were a couple of other two player drivers
And two player motorcycle games
And also a new fighter aeroplane game
Not so much an arcade report ,but just a bit of a heads up
If your over this way ,only 30 miles from Belfast
There are plenty of other arcades in Newcastle ,but from what I hear
This one is run by a bit of an enthusiast ,that updates these games regularly
The other arcades are full of the normal crap.

Finally made it to Southend yesterday to check out Astro City. Managed to play a few of my favourites: WWF WrestleFest, Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting and Street Fighter III.

Great selection of cabs, pool tables, pins, food etc. Plenty to keep everybody busy :D

Good stuff, look forward to coming again Thumbs Up
