I think I may as well nominate Kid no Hore Hore Daisakusen (horekid) as I haven't played it much since the last time it was chosen...

Is EASY the default difficulty setting for this game?

MAME seems to think it is but the fact that the next setting is NORMAL I would suggest that is supposed to be the default.

As my mame PC is totally on the fritz, I need to go for something that I have real hardware for.
So, my one for this time is...

Mame ROM is: daimakai

Difficulty settings are NOT quite Mame defaults:
Lives 4 (dips ON, off)
Difficulty 2 (dips off, ON, off)
Bonus 30K, 60K, & every 70K (dips off, ON)

Wanted:
- PCBs: Rainbow Islands, Bomb Jack, Rolling Thunder
- Parts: Naomi non-swivel castor wheel, coin mech metal clip for Dino King Door
- House Extension

Yeah, well and truly putting the 'un' in Fun LOL
(I still love the game though, even if the default difficulty is set to 'suffocation while being stabbed reapeatedly with electrified nails')

Just noticed the MAME default difficulty for Daimakaimura is 2, but 4 is marked as 'normal'. If we're playing Kid no Hore Hore Daisakusen on normal, are we playing this on normal too? This is getting confusing. I think people are just going to end up playing games on different difficulty settings. Confused

Erm.. I'll check and see what the difference is between mame + the manual.
This is what I have set up on the board dip switches:

So in mame that's:
Lives 4 (dips ON, off)
Difficulty 2 (dips off, ON, off)
Bonus 30K, 60K, & every 70K (dips off, ON)

Looks like MAME got it right with difficulty 2 then, but it sets lives to 3.

We could always get rid of using mame settings & go for factory default or picked by the nominee.

So long as it's clear what the settings are for all I guess either way is fine - 10p arcade podcast always post up the settings for the game of the fortnight.
Or look at twin galaxies for their 'official' settings if we have to Wink

I reckon factory default is best, play the game the way it was intended to be played.

We used to play TG settings, but some of them are weird. Factory settings would be fine, but it needs to be made clear exactly what they are, as you can't rely on MAME defaults being the same. Bomb Jack was somewhat spoiled for me as the settings we played were a bit too hard, and I never remembered playing it like that BITD.

I quite like the idea of the game nominator specifying the settings to play, as long as no-one picks something insane. LOL
