This will be my first restoration project so any and all advice is welcome!

I paid for an Electrocoin Duet today and when it arrives I'm going to try and restore to as close to its original form as possible. Really looking forward to getting into this!

And this is my reference.

Nice, I've got a soft spot for these from when I used to play them in Las Vegas in Liverpool. They had a row of them across the back wall. Does it come with the seat? I did see the listing but can't remember.

I think muddymusic has the art for the cpo.

No seat in the pics but I'll make one if need be.

Nice to see one of these getting restored, many have been trashed due to their size. I remember playing Street Fighter 2 CE on one of these and it was a real centrepiece in the arcade with a big crowd around it all day.

Thanks for the link that's great news! I did however convince my girlfriend that this was smaller than my electrocoin xenon due to the fact it's a sit down cabinet, starting to think I'm not just remembering it being big because I was a wee guy back then!

Na these things are pretty big, cool though. Remind me of Casino arcade in London.

Tis a real shame they mostly end up scrapped due to size. pretty sure I last played Streetfighter EX in these at Skegness when I was first joined here

Really nice with built in seat and big screen, good man for saving oneSmile

OK so got the delivery sorted and will be arriving on Monday!

In other news my friend has a bike shop and is letting me use his basement as a workshop plus there will be tools there I will have access to which should help a lot with not spending money on stuff until I know what I actually need.

Looking at storage space for building up a collection of cheap broken cabinets to restore too, if all goes to plan I should have a small and enjoyable labour of love in full swing within the next five weeks :)

Such a shame, I scrapped van loads of these, so many good parts ended up in the bin.

Good luck getting it restored, lovely old cabinets.

Situation update:

Got a workbench made up the other day and salvaged a filing cabinet from my work that was going in a skip. Place has everything I need I think.

Also it turns out a friend of mine has a garage that's too small for his car so I can use it to store cabinets if needed which is awesome.

The Duet is arriving on Thursday so I'll begin this thread properly over the weekend and get some screens of the cabinet and a breakdown of what needs done. Really looking forward to working through this with all of you as I'm genuinely going at this with zero experience!

Dunno what's involved with taking the monitor out of one of these. But it is worth doing. If you haven't already. It really reduces the weight of a cab and makes it much more manoeuvrable.

Yeah got that and all other electronics out. I'm thinking the middle body/framework of the cabinet can stay intact and I can just get the side panels off then work on those first. Would make for an easier reassembly.

OK so three questions before I begin :)

What is the best stuff to use for cleaning artwork?

Best practices for restoring dented and scratched areas?

How should I remedy the wrecked wood on the base of the side panel?

Any other tips please just throw them in.

Magic erasers and paint pens are good for cleaning and touching up artwork.

Ronseal Quick Drying Wood Filler, for the missing chunks at the bottom. Sets rock hard, sandable + paintable. Others use various similar things, even seen car body filler paste used. Just do work quite quick, it sets in about 3-4 minutes (good for building up areas slowly in layers though).

For metal / glass / plexi and unbroken vinyl, just a bog standard multi-surface-cleaning wet wipe can deal with quite a bit. If vinyl is cracked though, maybe avoid getting those parts too wet/damp.

Does anyone know how the side panels are bolted on? I need to get them off but I'm worried the bolts are underneath the artwork and I really want to preserve that. I can't find any assembly schematics for this cabinet either.

They're more than likely not bolted on. It'll probably be dowels and glue or staples or a combination. You'll be best off getting yourself a rubber mallet and having a bit of a tap around to see if anything starts to budge.

In your last pic you can see a metal plate on the bottom left of the cab. Probably another on the other side. That could be bolted. I'd expect to see something on the inside of the cab though.
