The Raspberry Pi 2 has been launched!

Featuring:
  • A 900MHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 CPU (~6x performance)
  • 1GB LPDDR2 SDRAM (2x memory)
  • Complete compatibility with Raspberry Pi 1

Makes it a lot more appealing for a potential MAME / Bartop build...

So possibly a stupid question but can a Raspberry Pi be connected to a J-Pac?  If so, how, as a Raspberry Pi doesn't have a VGA port as far as I'm aware?

Not without an HDMI/VGA converter which is both a) expensive (relative to a Pi, anyway) and b) a ballache.

Just realised that it runs a version of Windows 10 instead of Linux so does anyone know if leaked Fix It Felix Jr game be launched from the Pi 2?

Ive just ordered one too for my bartop.

The new processor is a quad core part and with its onboard 1gb ram and is quoted at being 6x more powerful than the original.

It should be better running mame than the original, which even after some tinkering was pretty dire - also the newer chip also allows it to run a greater choice of OS than previous.

It's fully compatible with all Pi 1 setups etc. - only the processor and memory have been upgraded. PiMame might need recompiling to take full advantage of the shiny new bits, and I wouldn't have thought it will take the folks at PiPlay long to get on that Smile

What I still find crazy about all these credit card size computers is they can't run windows xp, probably the biggest software supported OS available! What's the point in having a computer you can't use the software you need with it Dead I'm not a programmer, I just want a micro windows comp Confused

The reason windows isn't supported is because they run on an arm cpu - windows has traditionally been x86 (Altho I believe win10 has an arm version)

I've just set mine up and I'm having to compile RetroPie from source as there's no pre built ISO for it yet. Pi2 is loads faster than the first one. 5th gen consoles like N64 and PSX are running ok too.

I'm running mine on my NNC using a JVS-PAC and RetroPie works great!  Mind you the most taxing thing I've run on it so far is Mappy ...
