The Street Fighter II thread!!

Discuss! (haters need not bother)

I play SSF2THDR every day and have done for too long, (must be near 5 years now) You can look me up any evening on x360 TheSharkfactor, i'm always up for a game. Before that, I played ST and CE on mame for years, before that, it was 16bit consoles and arcades with 20p's! I've always played in some form or another since 1991.

Still don't claim to be any bloody good at it though lol!! , but I can hold my own ass fine. I've been playing Chun-Li non stop for near 5years 10-35 fights per day, everyday.

I've always liked street fighter but always been pretty bad at it. I decided a few months back to scale down my arcade collection and concentrate on getting better at a couple of games. Street fighter being the main one.
We play SSFIIX and 3rd Strike at my games nights but it's not frequent enough.
I've recently started playing SSF4 on PS3 and was thinking of setting it up in a cab.

I can't stand HDR though. I thought everyone hated that?

Have to say I've been considering getting another 360. There seems to be more sf players on that (and the cave games of course)

But what's this other online service? Are a few of you using that?

The majority of people do hate it.... But I think it's largely because Udon made the game look ugly as sin. Capcom weren't best pleased.  That and these days... if you can't juggle-ultra-duper-nuclear-combo somebody, they won't touch it.  SF33S is best anyway.. Wink

i've just picked up sf4 ultra, just need to get my monitor fixed then i hope to get into playing it online and learning it again. Hopefully with some of you fellas.  I used to be champ at sf2 bitd down the arcs,  I went on ggpo and the level of play has evolved immensely, its hardcore, not for the fainthearted!

Man.... Two of my friends are SF4 nutcases... They speak another language.... LOL
I'm training myself on SF4U as well...  But with every update it's becoming harder and harder to play... If you can't juggle to combo then you are dead.  It's more Killer Instinct than SF now...

Yeah.. Ggpo uses mame and let's 2 players play against each other online. It's limited to the limitations of the game rom - unlike HDR on the 360 where there is a lobby with upto 6players winner stays on, ggpo is you v him then it's over, start again.

That's why I prefer HDR, winner stays on, room full, chatting/socialising, sharing insults and tips.. It's a party! It is the best way to play sf2 with others in these modern times IMO...

Or at least it was...it's getting quiet nowadays..

I couldn't get into sf4. I really wanted to, but i just didn't get the feel for it. The timing was different from sf2 (understandable) and it was ruining my 2 game when I went back to sf2...

I'm a SF33S person myself..  But the Street Fighter times are always moving ahead and leaving your perfect version behind.  I'm afraid you may have to let SF4 ruin your SF2 play... It's the only way to play with the biggest crowd and stay current.  I didn't want to make the jump either... But had to.

My xbox id is skykappah.

I've been playing Street Fighter on and off since Street Fighter Alpha and SF33S. When SF4 vanilla came out, I played for a fair while but never studied it...  I'm pretty pleased with my skill level as I don't train myself and can beat my friends every so often... And they train like crazy... LOL
I'm thinking about doing an hour or 30 mins a night.

If you know nothing about the updated versions... Then it could be quite overwhelming... I made the jump every time a new one popped up.. I mean.. From SF2's to the Alphas and 3's..  The progression eases you into to SF4.  But it's too late to play them in order now and the only way is to jump straight into SSF4U..
I myself didn't play Super Street Fighter 4 and the next one, Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition..
So I'm kinda fresh to Ultra Street Fighter 4... Only bought it a few weeks ago...

I'll try to get on whenever I can... Having 2 kids and a 2 jobs and all... One of them I work from home... So if it's quiet... Then I'll be on.

My first experience was with Special Champion Edition on the Mega Drive. I love the first 3 SF2 games, but once it became Super Street Fighter 2 I lost interest. I enjoyed the Alpha series, with Alpha 3 being my favourite by far. I got SF4 on the 360 and enjoyed it, but really got into it when I got my Type X2 setup a few months back. I also got 3rd Strike around the same time and have been playing that quite a bit. I still haven't managed a 1CC on 3rd Strike and the parry system is still very new to me. Gill is such a son of a b*tch on 3S. For the record I hated HDR Embarrassed
