tbh I found Mick to be a bit of a 'creepy' guy,I went into the shop a few times but there was always a small 'gang' of lads my age (about 13-15 years of age) in there (all his mates which like I say looked a bit wierd as Mick would have easliy been in his early 30's),the shop wasn't that big so for any proper customers it would have been quiet awkward to look around so to speak....

I wasn't clued up about Miggy (I were an East End Park lad)  Miggy was a 'world away' from me LOL

I still didn't no about the black shutter place and the place just around the corner...I no that in the early to mid 90's (I could be wrong on this one) but i'm sure that black shutter place was a bar then called (I think) The Met Bar...Pretty sure there were 2 entrances to the place...one where the black shutter is now and another entrance just a bit furthur up the road (going towards the Crown Fish shop) and that place is very similer to what you have said about the arcade, you have to go down stairs (basically it was below street level)...

I'm 42 btw so we probably went to the arcades around the same time at a guess...

Ps...I used to work with a few lads from Belle Isle in the old container base (what used to be opposite the Punchclock) this would have been around 13 years ago now

Well just joined the forum and found this post! Great memories and i was probably in the arcade at the same time as a lot of you! from around 82 to 85 every Saturday in Mill Hill spending my weeks dinner money on Defender (money didn't last too long in this one) or later on in the Star wars sit down cab.
Also used to go to a small cafe down one of the side streets called "Le Cafe" which had a table top Donkey Kong.
After that also visited Centre four every Friday for a beer game of pool and pile a load of money into Killer Instinct.

Great Memories Thanks!

Hmm..?? don't ever recall Mill Hill amusements having a cockpit (sit down) Starwars cab Confused

Yes they had an upright (my mate had a long 7hrs+ game on that very one as well BITD)

The only Cockpit Starwars I saw and even remember that was in Leeds town center back then was in the Original Penny arcade on Eastgate (just down the alley way near the Vine pub)

Now weather there was another cockpit in an 'out of town' arcade eg...Miggy,Seacroft etc...there could well have been I don't no...

Not sure of the Original Penny arcade had a nickname Simon,we used to just call it 'The Penny Arcade'

It was ok in the Penny Arcade, but yeh I can see where you are coming from with the dodgy little allyway LOL...A lot of black guys used to go to the Penny Arcade it was like a 'hang out' for black lads but I never saw or had any trouble in all the years I used to go there Thumbs Up

I no that the big white guy who used to work there, the large bloke with the Moustasch (Errol was his name) used to be a bouncer at Mr Craigs (remember that night club Wink)

I've been slowly putting a FB page together for the last 2 years for Centre Four in Leeds. It's been pretty tough finding any information but me and the wife have been putting in the hours down at the archives!

Please take a look if you remember the place and leave a comment!?

still got my last 2 c4 credits, I remember seeing a line of AVP's stashed away at the back of that place from what I remember. The VS games were popular, XmvSF always use to have loads of players.

Thanks for posting up fellas, always nice to read stories from back in the day!

I used to go to Centre Four pretty every night after school back when it opened in '93 with my mum working in Leeds till late so I'd just play and hang about watching others play. I remember most of the classics from 90s coming out and seeing them for the first time...

My mate at the time was well into Ridge Racer, still my favorite driver along with Rave Racer (Which they had at the Starlight rooms if you remember that place? opposite break for the border)

Anybody remember The Next Level in the Burton Arcade? used have to buy the credits on cards and use earphones with it been a games shop and also Lazer Quest?? which was the first place I ever saw Mortal Kombat and Virtua Fighter!

The Place opposite the Sony Centre had SSFII/Turbo before anybody too if I remember right? was in the Big Blue U.S cabinet.

Mill Hill Amusements was used twice in A Touch of Frost

Most of my PS/DC collection came from New Gen, Chris was always great! I see his brother Mike at the car boots sometimes, Think Chris went to Cyprus to live?

Happy days back then!

Yup its the second one that Malik was playing on the Cab, then gets pushed aside, Cheers for posting them.
I also remember playing splatter house and sky kid in Mill Hill too
my SF2 Super X was on loan to Mill Hill for a few months too so if you ever played that in Mill Hill towards the back of the building on those 33" sit down cabs, was most likely my PCB.

on another note, I used to work at Beatties toy shop, and David Jason came in once while filming frost. we had a little chat about die cast cars. Great bloke :)

Wow, this thread's fascinating! I moved to Leeds in 2011, so a lot of the places mentioned are long-gone by now, but it's great to hear that Leeds has an arcade history.

I've tried to keep an eye and ear out for arcades in the town centre, and off the top of my head (nothing special)...

* In the Megabowl (?) in the basement of the Merrion Centre
* Some classic cabs in the large Shuffledog bar at the top of North Street
* A couple of Vewlix's running multigame PCBs at the back of Meat/Liquor on Commercial St, just on the outside of Trinity (maybe... they used to have a couple of Outrun 2's too, but they went away after a while - all supplied by Mo)
* Some modern cabs and games in the Vue cinema on Kirkstall Road in Cardigan Fields... pushing it for 'town centre' there though...

Would love a place with a nice selection of well-maintained JAMMA cabs and candy/specialist games in town, but I don't think there's anything. An "e-Sports" focused game cafe is opening soon (on Church Walk), but I don't think there are any arcade plans for it. :\

If a load of us clubbed together, I'm sure we'd have enough to fill a venue!

Always remember the glass display cabinet, had the 2 ST marquee cards and moves lists along with them empty Lilt and Tango cans

Played ST, New Gen, X-Men Vs. SF etc.

Always remember one rainy night after been at Centre Four all day decided to call in Millhill before catching the bus home and the owner had just put Tekken 3 in the machine, couldn't believe our luck at the time. Happy memories.
